Wikipedia: If you see ads on our site, you have malware

Wikipedia has issued a warning to its millions of visitors. The headline says it all: “If you’re seeing ads on Wikipedia, your computer is probably infected with malware.”

The free encyclopaedia gives three examples of how ads can get onto the site, but only one involves malware. First thing’s first: get yourself a solid antivirus solution like Microsoft Security Essentials or Malwarebytes and start scanning.

If your antivirus solution doesn’t find anything, the second way ads get onto Wikipedia is via browser add-ons and extensions. One example is a Google Chrome extension called “I want this.” To remove it, or any other such extension, open the options menu via the wrench icon on the top right, click on Settings, open the Extensions panel, and click the Remove button next to it.

The third way is your Internet service provider (ISP) may be injecting them into Wikipedia and other webpages. This is most likely the case with Internet cafes and “free” wireless connections. In this case, you can’t do anything other than just switch your method of accessing the Internet. You could of course block the ads, but that doesn’t solve the underlying problem.

“We never run ads on Wikipedia,” a Wikipedia spokesperson said in a statement. “Wikipedia is funded by more than a million donors, who give an average donation of less than 30 dollars. We run fundraising appeals, usually at the end of the year. But rest assured: you won’t be seeing legitimate advertisements on Wikipedia. We’re here to distribute the sum of human knowledge to everyone on the planet — ad-free, forever.”

Avira Antivirus update cripples millions of Windows PCs

For all those who are using Avira Antivirus paid versions and business editions, If you are affected by the recent defective Antivirus update, please do follow the below steps.

•Open the Avira Control Center.
•Click on Update › Start product update

Going into the Details,
German security company Avira is experiencing serious technical difficulties. A defective antivirus update is bringing Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7 computers to a screeching halt across the world

The update bumps the software version to 8.2.10.64 and the definitions file to 7.11.30.24. The result is that the AntiVirProActiv component starts detecting critical processes as malware thus halting the systems.

Company was notified and they started working on this issue as High priority and came up with the above specified solution which means they have backed out their previous Update.

IP Address - SubnetMask - Default Gateway

I have previuously read about IP address..i would like to share with you this interesting concept.
IP Address has 2 parts
Network ID
Host ID

N/W ID will be the same for all computers on a network
Host Ids were either decided by N/W Admin or DHCP
Subnet Mask: helps us to identify the N/w ID portion and Host ID portion of a IP address
Default Gateway: id the Ip address of the router.

IP Address - Classes
Class A
subnet mask:255.0.0.0
Format:     X.Y.Y.Y
X is Network ID portion and Y is Host ID Portion
X ranges from 1 to 127
Y ranges from 0 to 255
Below IDs must not be used because
X.0.0.0 is Network Id
X.255.255.255 is broadcast ID
127.0.0.1 is loopback address for every local system to check if TCP protocol is working

Class B
subnet mask:255.255.0.0
Format:     X1.X2.Y.Y
X (X1 and X2)is Network ID portion and Y is Host ID Portion
X1 ranges from 128 to 191
Y ranges from 0 to 255
Below IDs must not be used because
X1.X2.0.0 is Network Id
X1.X2.255.255 is broadcast ID

Class C
subnet mask:255.255.255.0
Format:     X1.X2.X3.Y
X (X1 X2 X3)is Network ID portion and Y is Host ID Portion
X1 ranges from 192 to 223
Y ranges from 0 to 255
Below IDs must not be used because
X1.X2.X3.0 is Network Id
X1.X2.X3.255 is broadcast ID

Class D and E are used for multicasting and Experimental purpose

Which Drive do i need to buy

We have 3 different types of storage drives available in Market.

Finally, If you're on a Budget,Have Large Storage Needs, and Speed Is Important, go with a Hybrid Drive which is a combination of both HDD and SSD. It takes a copy of all the frequently used files into SSD to make your work faster.

Path Variables in Windows

What is a path Variable and how is it useful!!!
PATH is an environment variable available on several platforms that specifies a set of directories where the executable programs are located.
It helps the programs to load easier and faster via Command prompt compared to GUI.
This can be a temporary change or permanent change.

How to Update this Variable
My Computer -> (Rightclick) Properties -> Advanced(Tab) -> Environment Varaibles (Button)
You will see a Dialog Box divided as
User Variables
System Variables

You would find the PATH variable in both User and System Varaibles. But i would suggest you to work with User vaiables only.
Double Click the Path Variable and APPEND the path of the folder to its value.
Remember, every Directory names we specify should be separated by semi colon.

In Windows 7
Select Computer from the Start menu
Choose System Properties from the context menu
Click Advanced system settings > Advanced tab
Click on Environment Variables, under System Variables, find PATH, and click on it.
In the Edit windows, modify PATH by appending the location to the value for PATH. If you do not have the item PATH, you may select to add a new variable and add PATH as the name and the location as the value.

You can set temporary path variables using SET Command that will be active until the command prompt is closed.

How it Works?
When a command is entered in a command prompt or a system call is made by a program to execute a program, the system first searches the current working directory and then searches the PATH, examining each directory specified in the value of the Path Variable from left to right, looking for an executable filename that matches the command name given.
Once a matching file is found, the system initiates a new process in which to run it.
If the system doesn't know the type of the file specified, it shows us an Open With Dialog as expected.

A simple example..At what instance this would be more useful..

Say, you save each of your daily activities in a separate Notepad (ddmmyy.txt format) and you would have to fetch previous files of some date frequently, Instead of going into the folder and searching for the file every time, you can use the above concept of PATH Variable.
You can list the path of the folder that contains these files in PATH variable..and now you can straight away give the filename (ddmmyy.txt) in RUN Dialog or Command Prompt to access any file in that folder.

This is also useful to run java programs via command prompt.

Online Notepad

Even the technology is improving day by day, Corporate companies were not not allowing their associates to bring their own gadgets and work on it. So people were made to work on Client machines which would have a limited access or access restrictions.

Many a times, Associates work on their personal Data in Office and wish to get that data to their home Desktop, and Management may not allow them to transfer the data from work mail to personal mail as it is a security Voilation. There comes the concept of Online Notepad.

Blogger Tip to Categorize your Posts

Blogger tip:

If you wish to categorize your posts and get them in different pages, you can achieve it using the below procedure.

While scripting a new post, before publishing, on the right hand side, we can find an Options Panel-> Labels.
Put your post under a specific label(so called Category) and publish your post.

Now to create a new Page for this Category, Go to Pages section in Dashboard->
You will have an option to link a web address to access the new Page
Specify your Category link there and publish the page.

Example: If you have posts with Category as QUICK FIX
URL u specify for the page would be: https://your blogname.blogspot.com/search/label/QUICK%20FIX

Now view your Blog.You will have all the posts under specific category in that Page.

Windows Command:TASKKILL

I have read about a windows CMD Command called Taskkill. This command helps us to kill/end one or more processes that is running in your local machine as well as the remote machine.
Basic Syntax:
TASKKILL [/S system [/U username [/P [password]]]]
         { [/FI filter] [/PID processid | /IM imagename] } [/F] [/T]
/S can be used if we wish to end a process in a remote machine. If it is a local machine it is not necessary to code it.
/U is used to specify the username who initiated that process.
/P is used to specify the password for the specified Username. If this is omitted, It will prompt for it while execution.
/FI is used to filter the request criteria to its finest
/PID is used to kill the process by its process ID
/IM is used to kill the process by its process Imagename
/T is an option which is similar to Kill Process Tree in Task Manager

General Example:

taskkill /IM iexplore.exe -> will kill internet explorer in loacl machine
taskkill /s wrkstn01 /IM vlc.exe -> will kill VLC player on the machine "wrkstn01"
taskkill /s l01wkst01 /u "IT Dept" /im process.exe /f /t
will kill the whole process tree of given process.exe initiated under IT Dept user of 101wkst01 machine.

You can get info regarding Filters of this command in your machine with the command TASKKILL /? in CMD.

Ways to login to Facebook

    Facebook had created 3 ways lo login to the facebook account. This is only for the characters in the password. since the case is not applicable to the numerals

1). Password is not Case sensitive. You can enter your password even with a CAPSLOCK on.
2). Facebook will accept the purely Mirror case of the Password
Example: if the password is FAcebooK..then faCEBOOk also will work
3). When you login through Mobile, Facebook will accept password with First letter CAPS and the other characters can be lower case

This is intentionally coded because

Most of the times we will enter the password with caps lock on.
Also when the Caps lock is on, we will type Uppercase letters using SHIFT key.
When we login through mobile, by default first Character will take Caps and the remaining goes on with lower case.

Comments in Pages

If you were a newbie in Blogger and wish to create a static Page with comments, This article is for you!!!.

If you are working on new Blogger Interface, you will have an option called "Pages" in your Dashboard.

You can go there and create a new Page. Update the Page with the Content.
In the Post settings Pane present in the right hand side of the page, you will find Options ->Reader Comments  -> Enable the radio button(select ALLOW).
Now Publish your Post and your readers will be able to comment on the page now.
   

Restart your Computer while in middle of Boot

If you need to restart your computer while you are in the middle of boot whether it's because you

picked the wrong OS at your dual boot menu, if you missed hitting F8 for Safe Mode, F2 for Boot

Options, or F10 for BIOS settings,you can quickly press Ctrl+Alt+Del to start the booting process

again. This saves a lot of time over waiting for Windows or Linux to turn on, log in, and restart to

get back to your selection menu.

Sign-in to Google mail account on public Computers with out typing anything.

Many a times you would need to access your gmail account on public computers for some or the other purpose.

2). Now pull up your Android phone or Iphone and try to scan the QR image in the browser with the
application scanner.
3).The scanned image converts into a link. Access the link through mobile(Dont forget to sign in your google account in Mobile)
Now this will signal Google servers that you are using this public computer and automatically logs into your account.

On January 18th, you would have noticed people on Internet speaking about Online Piracy...SOPA... PIPA...wikipedia blackout..several other major websites protest on SOPA and PIPA..!!!

I would like to furnish a brief overview on the Heads and tails of the Issue..SOPA and PIPA Acts

What is SOPA and PIPA and what are they supposed to do!!!

SOPA Stands for Stop Online Piracy Act and PIPA stands for Protect IP Act. These definitions gives us an idea that these were the laws setup inorder to stop online Piracy and protect copyright laws.

YES!!!They came about in order to kill piracy online, as the entertainment industry is obviously not excited that many people are downloading their products without payment or permission.

But in Real world affairs, These laws were acting in a negative style. Both SOPA and PIPA put power in the hands of the entertainment industry to censor sites that allegedly engage in copyright infringement.

How distinct are these from current existing copyright laws

We already have such copywrite protecting laws.If infringing content is found, rights holders already have the Digital Millenium Copyright Act(DMCA) to help them request the legal removal of that content. They also have the ability to charge the infringers for damages caused.

Why Wikipedia and other master websites on internet were opposing and how does these acts affect them.


SOPA and PIPA provide a means to censor the tool that provided a means for the infringing content to exist on the internet rather than the content itself. This puts a lot of power in the hands of rights holders and has significant potential for abuse.

There is incredible opposition to these bills from many major giant organizations like Wikipedia, Google, and Reddit. Etc... because these laws don't just affect users like us, or SMB's(Small and Medium Business Units) but even very large companies with a large venture in the great things the internet and modern technology have to offer.

As a result of the protests held by the organizations, Government held these laws from being passed as of now.
